Sleep well. Live longer.

Longevity meets sun protection

How the right sun protection can significantly improve your sleep quality – and why this matters more for your health than you might think.

Longevity: Why sleep is suddenly becoming the number one health topic

Living longer in good health and with vitality – this is a wish shared by more and more people. Under the term longevity, a new trend has emerged in recent years that revolves around nutrition, exercise and mental health. Yet one of the most powerful levers in everyday life is often underestimated: restorative sleep.

Scientific studies show that persistently poor sleep significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, metabolic problems and cognitive impairment. An analysis of more than 60,000 participants from the University of South Australia identifies sleep quality as one of the key factors for a long, healthy life.

The most common causes of poor sleep? They are comparatively easy to address: too much heat and too much light in the bedroom. And this is precisely where effective sun protection comes into play.

Sun protection and sleep: an underestimated connection

1. The right temperature – and how sun protection helps

Our body lowers its core temperature during sleep – a biological signal that says: now is the time to rest. Various experts recommend, based on several studies, a bedroom temperature of between 15.5 and 19.4 degrees Celsius for optimal sleep onset and sleep maintenance.1 Studies by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) also show that room temperatures above 24 °C measurably reduce sleep quality – rooms that are too warm shorten deep sleep phases and increase the frequency of waking during the night.2 A fact you may well recognise from tropical nights with warm temperatures in the bedroom.

Sleep researchers therefore agree: heat is a common but avoidable sleep disruptor. This is precisely where sun protection comes in: shielding your window during the day with the right product keeps the room cooler from the outset – without air conditioning and without additional energy consumption.

2. Darkness in the bedroom

Light is the most powerful regulator of our internal clock. Even small amounts of light – street lamps, screen reflections, early morning sun – can inhibit the production of melatonin. This naturally occurring hormone controls the sleep-wake cycle and is produced in the pineal gland of the brain – exclusively in darkness. Bright light perceived through the eyes measurably suppresses this release.3 The result when blackout is insufficient: lying awake, waking too early and only minimal restorative sleep. Sun protection with blackout fabrics is an effective solution!

YOUR BEDROOM AS A LONGEVITY INVESTMENT

Creating a healthy sleep environment doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. Often it is the right measures at the window that make the biggest difference – because that is where you can best regulate the brightness and heat radiation in your rooms.

Three KADECO products for more restful sleep

Honeycomb pleated blind – cool head, peaceful night

The KADECO honeycomb pleated blind regulates room temperature in a natural way. Its characteristic honeycomb structure forms an insulating air pocket between the fabric and the window pane. In summer it keeps the heat out, in winter it reduces heat loss – all without energy consumption and without any technical effort.

Particularly interesting for the bedroom: the honeycomb pleated blind is also available with darkening fabrics, combining temperature protection and light protection in a single product. Made to measure for every window, in a wide range of colours and textures.

  • In summer: heat protection that keeps the room noticeably cooler – without air conditioning
  • In winter: thermal insulation that saves energy while ensuring a comfortable temperature
  • All year round: a balanced indoor climate that supports your sleep

Blackout roller blind – for restful deep sleep

The KADECO blackout roller blind with blackout coating reliably blocks incoming light – even with a low morning sun or during the bright summer nights. Combined with side guide rails, light gaps at the sides are also effectively prevented.

The result: undisturbed melatonin production, genuine deep sleep and noticeable recovery – night after night. Particularly recommended for shift workers, families with children and anyone who is sensitive to light.

Window awning with solar drive

Anyone who wants to keep their bedroom or other rooms pleasantly cool can also take action directly on the outside of the window – before the heat even reaches the interior of the room. A KADECO window awning effectively protects against direct sunlight and significantly reduces the heating up of the room.

Particularly practical: the window awning is also available with solar motorisation. The integrated battery ensures reliable operation even in cloudy conditions and with a north-facing orientation. This makes it a particularly sustainable and straightforward solution that requires no additional power supply. Thanks to the optional integration into the smart home, the window awning can be operated fully automatically via a timer or sun sensor. This way, your bedroom stays pleasantly cool even on hot summer days when it is time to sleep in the evening.

TIP: MOTORISED SUN PROTECTION

Anyone who consistently controls light and darkness in line with their natural sleep-wake rhythm protects their circadian rhythm – one of the most important biological foundations for health and recovery.4

Motorised KADECO sun protection, such as honeycomb pleated blinds, roller blinds or Venetian blinds, makes this possible – fully automatically. Controlled by a schedule or the position of the sun, it reliably darkens the room at the right time in the evening and lets in daylight in the morning as required. Thanks to advanced motorisation options, the products can also be integrated into the smart home. For even greater comfort and relaxation.
